Welcome to my blog! This is the place where I get to muse about the things I believe God is teaching me, and hopefully share it in a way that connects with and inspires some of you.

Married to a fun loving gal (Mary) whom I met at Spokane Falls Community College, we have raised two beautiful and responsible young ladies, who have each, just recently, begun their own chosen professional career journeys. To me, life is most fulfilling when I am sharing it with them, and watching them each navigate their own pursuits and challenges, and creative expressions.

Since 2000 I have run a small residential carpentry/construction business and still do that full time. I enjoy my work and the various opportunities it affords to serve others in practical ways. Outdoor recreational activities have also been a big part of my life and something that has made me feel more alive and connected with the physical world, and it’s Creator. Occasionally I have convinced my family members to join me on various excursions.  Those have been among the more priceless moments for me; sharing my love of the outdoors with them and seeing them enjoy it as well. No doubt, I will share in more detail about these special times throughout my musings here.

For about half of my life I have dealt with type 1 diabetes. It’s not something that has kept me from doing the things that are most important to me, but it has definitely slowed me down a bit and caused me to be more disciplined in certain areas of my life. Although the inconvenience of constantly monitoring my blood sugars and trying to artificially adjust them, while damage is constantly being done to my vascular system, my eyes and feet, etc. is no fun, I would still say  it’s been a net positive in my life. Because I’m very aware of my frailties in this condition I think I can more greatly appreciate the people in my life who minister to me where I am at. Most notably my wife and children and other family members, who constantly make accommodations, and sacrifices for me.

One of the other blessings of my life has been growing up (spiritually) surrounded by other sincere seekers of God.  Friends and community members who have shared with me their own journeys of faith, and conviction; believing for and pursuing a higher goal. One that I too want to pursue and manifest in my own life. Because of such influences, including easy access to the Scriptures and the teaching of sincere preachers, I have been able to navigate this world of countless temptations, and by God’s grace, in a way that has been for the most part productive.

Also, by the influence of the Holy Spirit it has been brought to my remembrance the things that are most import, and the confidence I need to navigate them, during the testing times. Not in a “perfect” way, but in a way that keeps my feet on the path and protected from much of the stumbling blocks that the devil attempts to trip us up with.

One of the passages of scripture that have had the biggest impact on me personally is James 1:17-18, which says…

Every good thing given and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shifting shadow. In the exercise of His will He brought us forth by the word of truth, so that we would be a kind of first fruits among His creatures.

This passage not only informs us where everything comes from but our glorious role in the grand scheme of it all.  It is these truths that most inspire me to do all that I do in this life, and it is these realities that I plan to expound most upon through this blog.

I began this blog in 2013, hoping to inspire my family and friends with insights that God has so graciously opened my eyes up to. For about two years I shared about once a month with a new post. Then, about the time my girls started going through middle school and doing sports life became too busy for me to continue with this practice. For much of the last decade I have considered starting it back up again, but have not had a clear vision for the whole thing. In fact, I am still pondering how broad the scope of topics I cover will be. But I am very excited to once again look through the lens of my camera, my creative tool of choice, and ponder the deep transcendent truths the Holy Spirit reveals to me. And then discuss such things with those of you who also hunger and thirst for the truth and specifically a deeper revelation of God’s magnificently created order.
